Specialising in mixed media collage work, Vandoorne creates stylised female portraits worthy of the description, “iconic”.

Jessica The Illustrator: Spotlight on Young Creatives

I feel a lot of responsibility to create work that tackles issues that affect women, more so than anything else. Not just because I identify as a female but because who else will? I feel a kinship with other female illustrators because if I see something really good done by another female illustrator, I’m like “yes!”. As a community, illustration is a good place for women.

Female Artists: Aleksandra Mir’s Space Tapestry

I admire Mir’s collaborative approach because it provides a whole host of metaphors for what art is capable of doing. A whole team of people creating something impressive proves that art brings people together both in the gallery space and the creative process. I also think there’s something special about doing a show using materials that the majority have access to; the humble pen and paper.
